Wrapping up and Ending on a high note.

As I finish entering grades and we officially enter our last quarter of school this year I must encourage ALL of us to stay strong to the end.  It is a cop out to yourself and the great work you have made earlier in the year to give up now.  Testers I strongly encourage to manage your time and calendar, we are now officially traveling in hyperdrive.  All students should be conscientious of saving digital images to your own portfolio and the class blog site.  Many folks have work to do before the end of the semester finishing/improving artwork from this semester that was unchanged from your RD critique.  I am excited by the work that folks are continuing to improve and impressed with tenacity to develop ideas. Please keep up with the  current CALENDAR for class events, due dates, etc...   Here is some street artwork from Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Starting Again!!

I am going to work backwards this year and begin with what you will need to have accomplished by: the end of the year, semester, for testing, and end of quarter.  Please tour through the documents on the left under IB ART Information. Materials due Mon. at latest with web release and Field Trip forms signed too. The calendar is only updated as far as September, but print and put into IWb.
I had two big art things that were exciting for me this summer.
One was  Forest for the Trees  an event that brought artists from the world to Portland to paint murals around the city during the last week in August.
This is one collaboration between MEGS and Kimea Hadar (PowWow Hawaii).

The other was a printmaking class I took at PNCA with a master printmaker who printed a zillion superfamous artworks and we got to see this one by John Baldessari at the Schnitzer colection.

End of the year wrap up all a blur...

Please make sure that you have turned in all missing late work today 5/28/13.
We still need to work on one last project as well as polish up, alter, fix, re-work the projects that did not work out from this year (or semester). Shoot WELL (light and focus) and upload correctly into your portfolio as well as updating your slide list.  Refer to the IB Art FINAL on left side of here.
Check the calendar.

Portland Chinese Garden Field Trip

Tomorrow we walk to the amazingly beautiful Portland Chinese Garden.
PLEASE go to their site, read about the history and the intention of the space.
See how you can tie this into your own work. (like seeing little landscapes, looking at patterns carved in stone, wood and on ground, photograph the garden, or the politics of shipping many stones from China to Portland...)

Go to curriculum page  HERE  and see what else you can do.

Get the App. for the garden  APP
see you with your lunch at 11:15 at 125      xo Ms. Lilly

Research INTRO= RD #2 Complete!

We had a successful RD critique for these lovely investigative works on Thursday.
Please take a moment and make a SPECIFIC critique to at least 2 of the RDs- not
the ones you commented on previously but o.k. to connect with someone from your
small group critique.  Please utilize the following framework, writing specifically
to one artwork but asking deeper questions.  Remember to refer to each other's art
as artwork and not as a "piece"
unless it is a part of the whole.
Remember to give PROBING ANALYTICAL and CRITICAL feedback.
When giving feedback to your peers, phrase your comments
with supportive as
well as critical information.
"What works well in this artwork is ________."

"I think _______ would improve the composition."
"The artist is skilled at ________."
"I am confused by _____. "
"I would like
to see more of ____."   Remember to put your images and discussion of
process/progress in your IW.
Remember to make a comment as soon as possible,

comments will close as we move to discussing our next artwork.
Comments will be open until 10/24/2012.

Go See Artworks LIVE!!

Today and hopefully at least 4 other times this school year we will walk together to see ART LIVE in person.  The reason is this: Being present with artwork is different than books, magazines, internet, film, etc...  Experience the feeling, smell, light, display, sounds, and all that is there.  Record what you experience and note what you LIKE!  Use images taped into your IW and notes.
Return (in your IW) to AT LEAST ONE= artwork/artist that you see today, after our visit. Dig deeper and find out a little more.  Include other images by that artist to compare to. Print and attach into your IW any written information you find.

P.A.D.A ( http://padaoregon.org/ ) is the Portland Art Dealers Association and a great link to see what is CURRENT live Artwork in Portland.

As we do not have any "cushion"time after school we will be leaving as close to the start of lunch as we can (11:10) so come to the Art room with a walking lunch and your IW, pencil, coat and purse (please no backpacks!).

Portland Art Museum is FREE and so are most galleries in Portland.  GO there!
